Digital Photo Prints > Online Support
In order that our customers get the best out of their digital images we have assembled
this page. Click on a topic to read more.
If your query is not answered here, please do not hesitate to contact us via email
at info@colorama.co.uk.

  File formats
We accept jpeg, tiff and bmp file formats in RGB mode. If your files are in CMYK mode
please convert them to RGB before uploading them. ( Please note; all digital cameras
operate in RGB mode.)
  Image resolution

When you assemble your order, our software will present you with a warning if
the resolution or image is too low for that print size.
A green tick light will indicate sufficient resolution and will result in a good quality print.

A red triangle will indicate insufficient resolution and will result in a poor quality print.
In this circumstance we would advise our customers to select a smaller print size in
order to compensate for the lack of pixel information in their image file.
  Printing methods and paper
For all our small format work, 4 - 12" we use
Agfa d-lab.2 machines operating at 400 dpi.
We use Kodak Ektacolor Edge
photographic paper.

For our large format work, we use a Polielettronica
Laser Lab machine operating at a resolution
of 254 dpi.

  Aspect ratio
90% of digital cameras capture images which have a different aspect ratio, height-to-width
ratio, than conventional cameras.
The aspect ratio of digital cameras is 3:4, (similar to that of your televsion or pc monitor),
whereas conventional cameras work on an aspect ratio of 2:3.
Therefore if you choose a conventional print size, for example 4”x6”, your image will either
be cropped or have white borders added to the sides of the print. Our software gives you
the option to crop or add white borders to your image.
If you choose a digital output size, for example 4”x5.3”, no cropping or borders will be
required.
